WINES OF THE MONTH Joseph Drouhin Montagny 2006 Burgundy, France Taste a wine of place at its pluperfect tense. Joseph Drouhin has a stellar reputation as a grower and winemaker négociant. Don’t miss this wine of the southernmost village of Burgundy’s Cote Châlonnaise. It’s Chardonnay with poise of grand cru at a price us po folk can afford (albeit on special occasions). Reg: $21.99   Special price: $17.59 Mas Sainte Berthe Passe-Rose Rosé 2009  Les Baux de Provence, France This wine is a blend of a cold quick pressing and bleeding off  "saignée" of the local red grapes: Grenache 60%; Syrah 26%; Cinsault 8%; Cabernet Sauvignon 3%; Mourvèdre 3%;  It is salmon hued sunrise in a glass. Reg:$14.99  Special price: $11.99    Jean-Luc Colombo Cape Bleue Rose 2009 Coteaux d’Aix en   Provence, France Jean-Luc Colombo, a native of the Côte Bleue introduced in 2002 a new range of wines from this promontory of land overlooking the Bay of Marseille. Known for its shimmering landscape, this area of Provence has been captured on canvas by countless artists, most famously Cézanne. Colombo is determined to put it on the wine lover’s map with his delicate, yet expressive Cape Bleue Rosé. Grapes are handpicked from hilly vineyards with perfectly white limestone above the Bay of Marseilles. This region locally known as the Côte Bleue, benefits from a warm Mediterranean climate. Made from 40% Syrah; 40% Mourvèdre; 20% Counoise. Grapes are handpicked and fermented for two weeks in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats. The  wine is then matured on its lees and bottled in the Spring after harvest. Soft, delicate coral pink. Impressions of peach, rose petal and pepper on the nose Surprisingly complex, with intriguing notes of raspberries, fresh cherry, black olive and fennel.  Its modest 12.5% alcohol makes it a great rosé to enjoy on its own or with a wide range of appetizers, tuna tartar, lavender herbed galantine of chicken and vegetarian fare.  Reg: $11.99   Special price: $9.59 Skouras Roditis Moschofilero Peloponnese White 2008 Greece This light as a breeze White sets a new standard in Greek regional wines.  Great acidity is what keeps this lemon scented, almond hued coiffing wine always in the glass and on the table of great seafood restaurants.  Pairs terrifically with Spanakopita or Calamari.        Reg $11.99 Special price: $9.59 Anselmo Mendes Muros Antigos Vinho Verde Alvarinho 2009  Moncao e Melgaco, Portugal Master Winemaker, Anselmo Mendes procured a small vineyard in the best sub region of the Vinho Verde wine growing area in northern Portugal.  This is the most northerly vineyard area on the coast overlooking the Mino River.  Blazingly pure and high toned, this wine asserts itself on the palate and is a great foil for any pan-fried finfish dish or shellfish.  This is without a doubt a wine of place that shows both the varietal and the cultural artistry of the local Master.  Reg:$17.99, Sale Price: $14.39 Domaine Sigalas Asirtiko Athiri 2008  Santorini, Greece From the island of Santorini in the Aegean Sea, from vineyards that have existed for 3,500 years, the Asiritko and Athiri grapes are grown on porous terra cotta-like stoney soils.  Very closely trained to the rock face which gives them humidity by day (and cooler temperatures) and warmth by night.  The cut and drive of this wine is unequaled in Greece and more akin to France’s Chablis region.  Brilliant and unusual, a real treat.  Reg: $17.99 Sale Price: $14.39 Selvapiana Chianti Rufina Riserva Vigneto Bucerchiale 2006 Tuscany, Italy  This world class collectible wine (and drinkable even now) is certainly one of the top four (4) Chiantis I have ever tasted.  It has the drive and power of very prestigious Brunello di Montalcino at less than half the price.  I have tasted Bucerchiale in 15 vintages dating back to the 1960s in Vin Italy and at home and I can tell you this wine stands the test of time.  Lucky for us it’s coming through less channels to market and costs less than last vintage!!!  The 2006 is a classic.  Great depth in the mid palate, tight clustered fruit and very fine tannins that needs an hour to two of decanting and doesn’t diminish through two days of being open.  Own this for your table and your cellar.  Reg: $32.99, Sale Price: $26.39 Torres Celeste Ribera del Duero Crianza 2006 Castilla y León, Spain Spains most famous wine Producer, and the richest, started a project in Ribera del Duero, Riojas more muscular terroir to the west. Celeste is the result.  It is greatly under priced at $19.99 a bottle.  It’s made from 100% Tempranillo grape, here called Tinto del Pais, in a model of second growth Bordeaux, very supple and long.  Match with Roast Lamb and Ribeye Steak.  On a warm night of al fresco dining you can even use the label as a guide to the stars.  Reg: $19.99, Sale Price: $15.99

Weihenstephan

This is the world’s oldest brewery dating back to 1040 and is located in Fresing District, Bavaria, Germany.  It produces a range of pale lagers and wheat beers of exceptional quality.

Hefe Weissbier  Smooth malt background, rich yeast flavors, spicy with fruity banana overtones and a touch of cloves.  ABV 5.4.  $3.95 plus dep

Hefeweissbier Dunkel  Flavors of dark malt and a rich fruitness of banana, also with a touch of clove.  ABV 5.3.  $3.95 plus dep

Stone Sublimely Self-Righteous Ale  This is a medium to full bodied ale with a nice level of carbonation making it nice and bitter.  It has a great hop aroma coming from such a dark beer.  I would best describe this beer as a great IPA with a thimble of great stout thrown in.  Limited Quantities.  Get it before it’s gone.  Available 22 ounce bottles ABV 8.7  $7.49 plus dep

Sierra Nevada 30th Anniversary Brew - Fritz and Ken’s Stout  Fritz Maytag owner of Anchor Brewing in San Fransico agreed to guest brew this ale in honor of Sierra Nevada’s 30th Anniversary.  This pioneering stout is a rich and roasted ale, perfect for aging and worth of any special occasion.  Enjoy!!  Available 25 ounce bottle.  ABV 9.2.  $10.95 plus dep
